The icon is a traditional sacred art form associated with the Eastern Orthodox Church. The images follow strict guidelines and are normally not signed. I myself am baptized in the Greek Orthodox rite. I became intrigued with iconography during a pilgrimage to several Mt. Athos monasteries almost 20 years ago. I have been studying privately with a couple teachers during the last eight years. The subjects depicted have spoken to countless generations of hope, fear, faith and healing. Angel of the Desert is an extraordinary image of St. John the Baptist carrying his own severed head and bearing the wings of the herald or messenger. His scroll holds the well-known apocalyptic warning: “Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.”
El icono es una forma de arte sagrado tradicional asociada a la Iglesia ortodoxa oriental. Las imágenes siguen pautas estrictas y normalmente no están firmadas.
