Viewing the death of George Floyd on television I was compelled to create a painting demonstrating my emotions at the time. I did this by using an image of Mr. Floyd that was repeatedly shown on the news. My intension is to show the shattering of our concepts and emotions as a society watching the apparent murder of a human being on the nightly news. Using my ‘Color Chip’ style of painting the Mr. Floyd appears to be dissolving while at the same time the viewer is required to bring the pieces together in their mind’s eye to see the detail in the subject.
Al ver la muerte de George Floyd en la televisión, me vi obligado a crear una pintura demostrando mis emociones en ese momento. Hice esto usando una imagen del Sr. Floyd que se mostró repetidamente en las noticias. Mi intención es mostrar la destrucción de nuestros valores y emociones como sociedad que observa el aparente asesinato de un ser humano en las noticias nocturnas. Usando mi estilo de pintura ‘ficha de color’, el Sr. Floyd parece estar disolviéndose, mientras que al mismo tiempo se requiere que el espectador junte las piezas en su mente para ver los detalles en el tema.
