This summer has been both good and bad for me. I am lucky in that I have had more time to spend in my studio. Being an artist, this is my favorite pastime. It is true, though, at the same time, I am on edge much of the time about the state of our country and indeed the whole planet. I started being flooded with nostalgic memories of summers spent at camp in Vermont as a child and then weekends at Roper and Lyman Lakes as an adult in Arizona. How I miss those halcyon days! They seem so far away now as I worry whether I will ever again feel so carefree. I decided to do a series of paintings with my characteristic whimsical anthropomorphic cats. The series is called, “The Really, Really Cute Cat Series.” It is meant to ease the anxiety of this bad year.
Este verano ha sido bueno y malo para mí. Tengo la suerte de haber tenido más tiempo para estar en mi estudio. Como artista, este es mi pasatiempo favorito. Es cierto, aunque, al mismo tiempo, estoy ansiosa la mayor parte del tiempo sobre el estado de nuestro país y, de hecho, de todo el planeta. Empecé a sentirme inundada por recuerdos nostálgicos de veranos que pasé en campamentos en Vermont cuando era niña, y luego de los fines de semana en los lagos Roper y Lyman cuando era adulta, en Arizona. ¡Cómo echo de menos esos días idílicos! Parecen tan lejanos ahora, cuando estoy preocupada por si volveré a sentirme tan cándida. Decidí hacer una serie de pinturas con mis característicos gatos antropomórficos imaginarios. La serie se llama, “Serie de gatos muy, muy lindos”. Está pensada para aliviar la ansiedad de este mal año.
