Many of my recent paintings came from weeks of focusing on the environment, while practicing isolation and complete social distancing from everyone except our immediate family. The fires on Mount Lemmon, resulted from dry lightning striking decades of understory growth and were able to consume massive areas while polluting the air around us. Since I have asthma I had to stay inside. We then drove to Colorado to get away from it all and to stay on open land with fresh air and to be away from people, given the spike in Covid cases in AZ. I subsequently watched storm fronts move around us without having rain where we were, and I painted these elusive aggressive cloud fronts. The storm winds were ominous, yet no rain. Droughts continue throughout the Southwest in this time of global warming and pandemic.
Muchas de mis pinturas recientes son el resultado de semanas de haberme centrado en el medio ambiente, mientras practicaba el aislamiento y el distanciamiento social completo de todos, excepto de nuestra familia inmediata.
