The imposed isolation from the pandemic lead to my discovery of a cache of family photos. Remembering the women in my life who have passed: my grandmother, my mother, her sister, and my sister, the images exposed feelings of grief and glimpses into lives well lived. It was important for me to honor these women, reflecting back on their lives and looking forward to the future and the continuation of a long line of strong women. Whether photographing in distant lands or in the desert around me, I love to focus on the small details: a single light highlighting an elusive bloom, the contrast of colors in nature, or the simple beauty of well-lived soul.
El aislamiento de la pandemia me llevó a descubrir una colección de fotos de mi familia. Al recordar a las mujeres de mi vida que han fallecido: mi abuela, mi madre, su hermana y mi hermana; las imágenes expusieron sentimientos de dolor y vislumbre de vidas bien vividas. Para mí era importante honrar a estas mujeres, reflexionar sobre sus vidas y mirar hacia el futuro en la continuación de una larga lista de mujeres fuertes. Ya sea fotografiando en tierras lejanas o en el desierto que me rodea, me encanta concentrarme en los pequeños detalles: una sola luz que resalta una flor, el contraste de colores en la naturaleza o la simple belleza del alma bien vivida.
